Omega's line of De Ville watches was introduced in 1967 as the must-have dress watch for sophisticated gentlemen and ladies. But it made watchmaking history in 1999, when it became the first commercialized line of watches to feature a coaxial escapement. Often thought to be the most important innovation in watchmaking in the last 250 years, this mechanical marvel, originally created by master horologist George Daniels, reduces internal friction and removes the need to add a lubricant.
