Product Description

Taste the best of the best with the D’Urville Island Single-Hive Master Beekeeper Manuka Honey. This single-hive honey would normally be reserved for the master beekeeper's own personal use, but they have agreed to share it with you!

The Master Beekeeper Manuka Honey hails from D’Urville Island, New Zealand— a remote, 58 square mile island in the Marlborough Sounds with fewer than 60 residents. The master beekeeper that operates these hives is Jeff Lukey. With 40 years of beekeeping experience, he knows the best locations for healthy, happy bees.

Unlike most commercial Manuka honeys, this single-hive honey is sourced from only one site, and is not blended with honey from other locations. This captures the distinctive floral sources so it retains the unique flavor and properties of that location. And because it's raw, it has undergone less processing than conventional honeys, making it higher in healthy enzymes.

The Master Beekeeper Manuka Honey has been tested to strict government standards and has an activity of MGO 152+. Methylglyoxal is the key measure of the special activity from manuka honey, making it an ideal honey to support general everyday wellbeing.

FAQ
What number is UMF?

This is not a UMF honey. It has a rating of MGO 152+ which would roughly translate to UMF 7+.

Does it need to be refrigerated after opening? How long will it last before expiring?

No, it doesn't need to be refrigerated after opening. It will be good up to the "best before" date, and possibly longer as honey doesn't really go bad. It may crystalize, but gentle warming will dissolve them.

What does it mean by single hive?

Single Hive just means they come from one beekeeper's harvest, rather than blended from different sources. It is as close to natural as possible.

What does MGO mean?

This the level of Methylglyoxal (MG or MGO)found in the honey. There will be 152 mg/kg of Methylglyoxal present in this honey. It is this which gives Manuka its unique benefit.

Are the queen bees wings kept in tact and is the honey taken replaced with sugar water or something else?

No, the queen's wings are not altered in any way. The Master Beekeepers are selected because they operate traditional beekeeping practices. This means a less commercial approach/profit-driven approach, and respect for the bees. Typically enough honey is left for the bees to get through winter. If the honey season is poor and the bees need a boost, sugar water may be fed to get them through to spring.
