Korean - Civil War Medal
Product Description
This is a very rare and unique find. This is a Medal/Ribbon that was awarded to a Vietnam Veteran who had family that served in The Civil War as well. Look around, you will not find another one like it!!! This is a museum quality piece. This is history in your hands!!
The medal and ribbon are in perfect condition. There are no scratches on the solid bronze medal and the ribbon stitching is nice and tight. The vivid Blue and White colors of the Korean War of the fabric is bright and clean. Due to the fact that the medal is solid bronze, it is quite heavy for its size. Everything is in mint condition.
The colors on the ribbon are light blue and is bisected with a center stripe of white. The colors represent the United Nations, under whose authority the was fought.
The ribbon is connected to the bronze medal and has “UDC” intertwined. The UDC stands for the United Daughters of The Confederacy. The bronze medal has “CREANTURE” (meaning Creates), “FORTES” (meaning Strong), and “FORTIBUS” (meaning Brave), and the dates of 1861 – 1865, which are the dates from the U.S. Civil War. It has “VIETNAM SERVICE” with a cross of “13 STARS”.
The medal was awarded to Archie Cannon at the UDC Virginia Division annual convention in 1989. The convention was held in Woodstock, VA. He also received a medal for his service in the Vietnam War at the same time he was awarded the Korean Medal. The UDC also had medals that were awarded to WW I and WW II veterans as well. This is the only one that I have seen for Korea.
That’s all I know about the medal. There is a serial number of 1056 and has a double strike with the numbers 8 or 9 and “MEDALUCART CO NY” stamped on the back which may produce further info if you do some more investigation.
