Confederate $ 1000 Bond April 30, 1863 # 7007
Product Description
This is a beautiful example of a Confederate $ 1000 Bond. This bond was issued by the ‘CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA” (CSA). The bond states “LOAN AUTHORIZED BY ACT OF CONGRESS APROVED ON APRIL 30, 1863. This bond has the serial number 7007. The bond carries an interest rate of six percent. It was issued on June 1, 1863.
The bond has been professionally framed and matted in a solid oak frame that measures 20” x 17”. The frame alone cost $ 350.
This is history in your hands here!
The bond still has 19 of the original 20 coupons attached on the bottom of the bond. When the date printed on the coupon arrived, you could cash it in for your interest payment, if the Confederacy had won the “War between the States”.
What is really cool is the coupons are dated:
June 1st 1865 through 1883.
The bond features James a Seddon, the Secretary of War for the Confederacy. It was issued in Richmond, Virginia. It was lithographed by the then famous company of Evans & Cogswell of Columbia, South Carolina.
It is hand signed and numbered by the Confederate Government. When the Confederacy seceded from the Union, the immediate concern was the need to raise revenue through borrowing, taxation, and printing currency.
The Confederate government turned to issuing bonds and printing currency to generate the revenue needed to fund the war effort.
