Being offered today is a VERY RARE 1928 A $20.00 Federal Reserve “REDEEMABLE IN GOLD” note.

The note is graded by PMG (Paper Money Guaranty) in 65 Choice Uncirculated EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) condition. This note is very hard to find in this condition.

THE NOTE ALSO HAS THE REDDEMABLE IN GOLD STATEMENT ON THE UPPER LEFT SIDE OF THE NOTE:

The upper left of the note states:

“REDEEMABLE ON GOLD ON DEMAND AT THE US TREASURY OR ON GOLD ORLAWFUL MONEY AT ANY FEDERAL RESERVE BANK”. So, at the time you could cash the note in for gold. Pretty cool.

This note has another great feature. It is a low serial numbered note with only
7 digits. Lower serial numbered notes are much harder to find! Especially in the 1928 A $20.00 series.

The note starts out with 0. The serial number on this note is J 02601198 A.
This note was among the first notes printed which is identified by the J – A block. The letter “J” in the serial number stands for the 10th Federal Reserve Bank, which is located Kansas City.

The number “10” represents the 10th letter in the alphabet, which is J, which is the letter for the BEP in Kansas City.

This note is very hard to find in this condition. In the early years of production (1928), the notes used a numerical system. The use of numbers was changed to lettering for the 1934 Series. So, this note is the early version of this series and that is why it is more collectable.
