First Jewish War. Jewish Revolt Against Rome, 66-70 C.E. An exceptional bronze prutah. Dated year 2 (67/68 C.E.) The front depicts a two handled amphora, ancient Hebrew inscription "Year Two" around / The back depicts a grape leaf on small vine, "The Freedom of Zion" in Hebrew around. ref: Meshorer 196; Hendin 1360 for type. Dark coppery tone, excellent detail! Coin diameter 19 mm, encapsulated and certified Very Fine by NGC. An excellent specimen with incredible detail! Archival slab measures 3.125" x 2.125" x 0.375” ** This coin was minted and circulated during the time of Josephus, the Jewish War and the standoff at Masada. Although this coin was found elsewhere in Israel, these very same types of coins have been excavated atop the mountaintop fortress of Masada, and have earned the name "Masada coins".
