Anglo-Saxon, Britain. Kingdom of Northumbria. Archbishop Hunlaf, 837-854 AD. Bronze Styca, struck by moneyer Aethelweard. +VIGMVND-I-REP (retrograde) around a small cross / Moneyers name +HUNL'AF around cross. .

Discovered in the fall of 1967 when two schoolboys found some scattered coins in a field near the bank of the river Wharfe, believed to have been buried prior to a Viking attack on the region in 866 AD.
