Medieval England. Plantagenets. Edward I. 1272-1307. Beautiful Silver Penny. “New” coinage, class 3G1, Canterbury mint, struck circa June 1280-December 1281 AD. The front depicts the crowned facing bust of Edward I, inscription EDWRD ANGL DNS HYB around / The back with a long cross pattée; triple pellets in the quarters, inscription CIVITAS CANTOR around. Measures 19mm, weighs 1.36 grams. Reference: SCBI 39 (North), 162; North 1022; SCBC 1419 for type. Slightly wavy flan, grades Very Fine. From the 2015 Haddiscoe Hoard (PAS NMS C8AA6F). Provenance: Ex Classical Numismatic Group (CNG).Accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity which includes all the details, culture, dating, motifs/inscriptions when applicable, historical relevance, and provenance.
